"We still feel like a tiny little band doing what we can do.We're sitting out here in a cabin just hanging out, and we don't have a clue what's going on in the rest of the world. We have no idea how many people really know about us."

I was able to catch up with the young women of Ilia while they were stuck in a southern Texas cabin following some van trouble. This would be their first interview since becoming a band.

Coping with Cutting
Alyssa Duncan, Ilia's lead singer, was a cutter when she was a teenager. Do you know someone who is a cutter? See some ways you can help and also read a Pastoral Response to Cutting.

Ilia consists of five young women with a common love of hard-core music and a desire to use that music to reach out to other young people, especially younger girls within the hard-core community.

This is truly a group of friends. Katie, Lindsey and Melissa have known each other since they were toddlers in Arkansas. After meeting Jessica at a youth retreat when they were 16, the four teens formed their first band.

A couple of years later, Melissa, Lindsey and Jessica attended a Music and Worship Arts College together in Memphis. Then in spring of 2007, Alyssa joined the group and they have been touring almost non-stop every since.

Each member of Ilia has their own story of heartache and the struggle to become who they were called to be.
