Step 1
User Name
Enter the user name you will use to identify yourself on YouthRoots. Choose something that is easy to remember and reflects your personality, but does not reveal your personal identity. User names can consist of the letters A - Z (both upper and lower case), the numbers 0 - 9, underscores and hyphens. Spaces are not allowed.
To see if the user name you want is available, type it into the User Name text box and click on the green “Check Availability” link to the right of the text box.
Email
Enter your email address here. A valid email address is required for your participation on YouthRoots because you may receive notifications from the YouthRoots system and messages from other YouthRoots users. YouthRoots respects your privacy. You will not receive any marketing emails from us and we will not share your email address with anyone. Read the Privacy and Use Policies for full details.
Password
Type in the password you will use to log in to the YouthRoots site. Passwords are case-sensitive, so “Toto” is not the same as “toto”. Passwords can consist of the letters A - Z (both upper and lower case), the numbers 0 - 9, underscores and hyphens. Spaces are not allowed.
Birthday
Enter your birthday by choosing the month, day and year you were born from the drop-down boxes. You must be 13 years old or older to become a member of the YouthRoots community.
Email Preference
Choose the format for all emails sent to you by the YouthRoots system and other YouthRoots members. Html emails will contain graphics and clickable links, but might be rejected by some email servers. Plain text emails contain only text. You should probably choose html unless you experience problems with html emails from other sources.
RSVP Code
If you received an RSVP code at a special event or in a special YouthRoots promotion, enter it here. RSVP codes can be used to help set up your group memberships and other preferences more quickly.
Privacy and Use Policy
By checking this box you are agreeing to comply with the YouthRoots.com Privacy and Use Policy. You must agree to this in order to use YouthRoots. You can read the entire policy by clicking on the link below this checkbox.
Step 2
User Photo
In this step you will upload a photo that will be displayed on your YouthRoots Member page and at other places on the site when you enter comments, forum posts and blog posts, and when you appear in searches performed by other YouthRoots members.
For security’s sake you might want to choose an image that is an extension of your personality rather than a photo of yourself. Your photo should not contain personal information such as your real name.
Click on the ‘Browse’ to choose a photo from your computer for upload to the YouthRoots site. Once you have chosen the file, click on the ‘Upload’ button to send it to the YouthRoots server. After the page refreshes, your photo will be displayed here. Only images stored in JPEG format (ending in .jpg or .jpeg) are allowed at this time.
For best results, your image should be less than 800 x 600 pixels and smaller than 100 kilobytes. The system will automatically resize the image for use on the YouthRoots site.
If you are happy with the photo you have chosen, click on the ‘Next’ button to continue to the next step. Click on the ‘Back’ button if you want to go back and change some of the information you entered in the previous step.
Step 3
Member Information
Tell us more about yourself to help enhance your YouthRoots experiences. We will not share your personal information with anyone outside of YouthRoots. Only your user name will appear to other YouthRoots users whom you have not made your family or friends. Family, friends and leaders of groups you belong to will see your full name in requests and messages you send to them. You will also see your first name on the mini-control panel and home page when you are logged in to YouthRoots. Other YouthRoots members will not see this.
Allow my profile to appear in searches.
If this checkbox is checked, your username and avatar image will be displayed in searches performed by other YouthRoots users. If you do not want to be included in searches, uncheck this box.
First Name
Enter Your First Name here. Spaces are allowed.
Last Name
Enter Your Last Name here. Spaces are allowed.
City
Enter the name of the city you live in here.
Country
Choose the country you live in from the drop-down box.
State
Choose the two letter abbreviation for the state you live in from the drop-down box.
Province (Canada)
Choose the province you live in from the drop-down box.
Postal Code
Enter your Zip Code here. You should use only the 5 digit version of your Zip Code. Zip Codes should consist of numbers only.
Time Zone
Choose the time zone for the city you live in from the drop-down box. YouthRoots automatically displays event dates and times correctly for your time zone and compensates for differences between time zones for different users and groups on YouthRoots.
Denomination
Choose the denomination or movement you are a member of from the drop-down box. This step is optional. You can choose to leave this blank or choose ‘Other’ from the list. If you do not see your denomination or movement in the drop-down, send us an email an we will enter it for you and email you back. You can change your selection at any time by using your Member Control Panel, which is accessible after you have logged into YouthRoots.
Short Bio
Enter a few things you would like other YouthRoots users to know about you. Your Bio will be displayed on your YouthRoots Member page. You should not include personally identifiable information here. The information you enter here should be less than 1,000 characters in length.
Interests
Enter your interests, separated by commas. Words you enter here will be included in the Interests tag cloud that appears on the YouthRoots People page. Your interests should be one or two words long, for example: ‘hiking, swimming, chess, running, bible study.’
You can find other YouthRoots members with the same interests as yours by clicking on the links displayed on your member page. Other YouthRoots members can find you based on your interests by using the tag cloud on the People page, unless you have chosen not to be included in searches.
External Links
You can display links to three different web sites on your Member page. You can link to your favorite web sites or to your page on other social networking sites. Sites linked to here will be displayed in new browser windows. Please keep in mind that all visitors to your YouthRoots page will see these links, so you should not put links to personally identifiable information here. You can edit these links at any time via your Member Control Panel after you have logged in.
Each link consists of two parts, the link title and the link URL.
Link Title
Enter the short name of the link, which will be displayed on your profile. This is the text users will click on to access the external site.
Link URL
Enter the fully qualified link to the external web site, for example, http://www.mywebsite.com. If the link is long, it might be easier to copy and paste the link in rather than type it.
Next Button
Click the Next button to complete your YouthRoots registration. Check your email for a notification containing information on how to verify your registration.
Back Button
Click the Back button to return to the previous step in the registration process.
