Led Zeppelin will reunite for a November 26 concert at the O2 Arena in London England. Original members of Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones, will join their late drummer John Bonham’s son, Jason Bonham for the concert. The concert is a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun of Atlantic Records, who signed Led Zeppelin in 1968.
Other performers at the concert will be Pete Townshend (The Who), Bill Wyman (The Rolling Stones), and the last person Ertegun signed to Atlantic, Scottish singer Paolo Natini. Natini had just turned 18 years old when Ertegun signed him to Atlantic in May 2005. The concert will benefit the Ertegun Foundation, which provides scholarships to students in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ertegun’s native Turkey.
By 1975, Led Zeppelin was the most commercially successful band in the history of Rock & Roll. Since their first album was released in 1969, they have sold over 300 million albums. Rumors of a reunion have circulated many times since they officially broke up after the death of their drummer in 1980, and the rumors always involved Jason Bohnam, who has played with Zeppelin many times. But that rumor has never come true…until now!
Tickets for the Led Zeppelin reunion concert are 125 British pounds each (the equivalent of 254 US dollars). In order to get tickets, people had to pre-register at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute website. Tickets will be sold with a ticket lottery, and lottery numbers will be pulled at random. The website estimated that people registered on the site at 80,000 per minute. Over 20 million fans registered for tickets within the first 24 hours.
If you are a fan of Led Zeppelin, but can’t get tickets or fly to London to enjoy the concert, don’t worry. This event will more than likely have a multi-million dollar filming with a future CD and DVD to capture the experience. You will probably also have a chance to see the concert live on pay-per-view or internet feed.
