Fans of Grey’s Anatomy have already been exposed to the music of this month’s Indie Band pick. “Quicksand,” by Sleeping at Last, was used in the season three premier episode.
The Sleeping at Last trio is lead by vocalist Ryan O’Neal, with his brother Chad on drums and bassist Dan Perdue. The group has played with Zwan, Switchfoot, Yellowcard, and The Format. They also have headlined solo shows in all parts of the world and have played the past six years at Cornerstone Music Festival.
Sleeping at Last’s debut album “Ghosts,” that was released in 2003, was produced by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins and Zwan. Their 2006 album “Keep No Score” was engineered by Bjorn Thorsrud who also produced some Smashing Pumpkins music.
The influence of Corgan can be heard in the vocals of O’Neal, but without the harder rock edge of the rest of the Pumpkins. The music of Sleeping at Last is a softer acoustic sound with a heavy mix of strings to back Ryan’s vocals.
